Free 2007 Adult Caregiving "Show Me Guide" Now Available
The first step in a unique national alliance between Secure Horizons by UnitedHealthcare and Right at Home In-Home Care & Assistance was recently announced.
The announcement arrived in the form of the 2007 Adult Caregiving Show Me Guide, a free publication that provides extensive and easy-to-read information, advice and support for individuals and families faced with the often overwhelming challenge of providing caregiving services to aging or disabled adults. The motivation behind this alliance is Right at Home and Secure Horizons’ common commitment to education and advocacy for the estimated 52 million Americans who now face the responsibility of adult caregiving.
The Show Me Guide covers important issues such as advice for those who are adult caregivers, answers to frequently asked questions, and guidance on the next steps to take when one becomes an adult caregiver. The Guide also provides extensive resources and contact information in the areas of caregiving education, disease-specific organizations and senior health and aging.
This mutual advocacy alliance between a major national health insurance concern and a major national private duty home care organization is considered by many to be a watershed event in the rapidly expanding healthcare services industry. Moreover, both organizations have committed significant resources in an effort to provide free information, advice and support that will benefit our nation’s adult caregivers and the clients/families to whom they provide services.
Secure Horizons is the division of UnitedHealthcare that provides Medicare Advantage plans to approximately 1 million individuals nationwide. “Medicare Advantage” is the name for the different private plans available to provide Medicare. In addition to the original Medicare “fee-for-service” program, Medicare offers beneficiaries the option to receive care through private insurance plans. The main premise is that through preventive care and the use of a primary physician who acts as a “gatekeeper” to specialized care, health care costs can be reduced while beneficiary health can be maintained. To date, most Medicare beneficiaries who participate in Medicare Advantage are enrolled in private plan HMOs, such as Secure Horizons.
Right at Home is a national leader in the provision of in-home supportive care services to seniors and disabled adults. Both organizations hope that this Show Me Guide, and future marketing/publicity pieces, will also inform family caregivers about the availability and importance of their cost-effective preventative care services.
